Famous Basques in world fashion

The most accurate rule is that there is an excemption to every rule. And that can be applied to the image that the Basques have abroad of severe guys, that does not contradict at all the existence in our society of sensibility and care. There are other examples of Basques which are either severe or sensible, but today we will center on the cases of Basques who have succeeded or are successful in the world of fashion.

Balenciaga

Cristobal Balenciaga Eizaguirre was born in 1895 in Getaria, a small coastal fishermen town of Gipuzkoa. For many he is the most famous fashion designer of all times. Roberto Echaverría

Roberto Etxebarria was born in Eibar, Gipuzkoa in 1976. He become a reference at 32 years old. His work innovates in the designs, using exotic leather. In May 2014 he received the Spanish National Fashion Award and in September showed his collection "Pure skin" Menswear in New York.

Jon Kortajarena

Jon Kortajarena was born in Bilbao in 1985. He has been a model of Just Cavalli, Calvin Klein, Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld, Zara, H&M, Guess Gianfranco Ferre, Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo, John Galliano, Chanel and Missoni. He is amongst the first 10 top models in the world.

Luis Venegas

Luis Venegas was born in 1979 in Vitoria-Gasteiz. He is an artist and DJ, but he has become famous in the fashion as a creative director and editor for magazines such as Fanzine137, EY!Magateen, C?Sft, El Perro Impreso and EY!Collección Boy. He has also worked for brands as Loewe, Acne, Carolina Herrera and American Apparele.
